Arts, Crafts & Textiles gives primary children time to make things with their hands: drawing, painting, collage, model-making and working with textiles across the term. Projects change with the seasons and often tie in with what children are learning elsewhere.
The class is unhurried on purpose. Children plan a piece, work through the messy middle, and finish something they can take home. Along the way they practise cutting, measuring, and the kind of steady focus that helps in every other subject.
For many children it is the part of the week with no right answer, which takes the pressure off and lets quieter ones come out of their shell. Parents get a fridge covered in work their child is proud of.
